Illustration of PL calculation with and without maps. In the underlying scenario, a user moves on the connecting line of two BSs. The distance between the BSs is 200 m and the PL model is free space with a pathloss exponent of 2 at a frequency of 2.14 GHz. The plot shows the respective PL values over the distance to the first BS. When using a PL map with a resolution of 5m/pixel there will be a region around the distance of 100 m where the user experiences the same PL from both BS, which leads to problems for cell association.
